Accessibility

We are firmly committed to providing a safe and accessible venue in Sudbury for all, where inclusion and diversity thrives.

Accessible Venue

The Friends of St Peter’s identified a need for the building to engage new and young volunteers and better connect with the community. As a result, The Churches Conservation Trust embarked on a major project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to repair and improve the facilities, including essential improvements such as new toilets, a modern kitchen and bar, and a lift to make the space more versatile.

Wheelchair Access

Sudbury Arts Centre is an accessible venue for wheelchair users via the main entrance, with level paving to the door. Inner doors can be opened by staff or stewards when required. We have a DDA-compliant platform lift to our upper gallery space for anyone with mobility issues and portable ramps when needed for access to the South Chapel and Chancel spaces.

Interpretation

Inclusion is very important to us and goes beyond physical accessibility. As such, our interpretation elements in the building, sharing the heritage of Sudbury and our beautiful building, have been designed to be enjoyed by as many people as possible. We tell the stories of time through visual and audio methods, and all are shared online for anyone unable to visit.

We are firmly committed to providing a safe space for all, where inclusion and diversity thrive, in line with our aims and values. Everyone sharing these values will be made very welcome.

Toilet Facilities

Sudbury Arts Centre has four unisex toilet cubicles, including a DDA-compliant toilet and baby changing facilities. As Sudbury Arts Centre is a Grade I listed building with limited space, we are sorry, but we do not currently have a Changing Places toilet. We hope to twin our toilets via the Tearfund programme to help flush poverty down the loo, and if you are interested in sponsoring this, please get in touch!

Dogs

We welcome all dogs within Sudbury Arts Centre as long as they are well-behaved and kept on a lead. Access for dogs will be restricted depending on the events that are taking place within the venue at any given time.

Outside Space

Thanks to some legacy funding from former Sudbury resident Mr Weir via Sudbury Town Council, we have made our historic graveyard accessible by introducing new gates and widening the footpath. You can sit outside on nice days, enjoy a coffee from our café and watch the world go by!

Parking

There are plenty of car parks and parking spaces within and surrounding Sudbury town centre. Find out more detailed information on accessing the nearest car parks.
