Come and join us for an evening of family fun on 31st October from 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Did you know that we have many Green Man carvings in wood, stone and terracotta in the Arts Centre? Some of them are over 500 years old, and the newest were made by the community in 2023. It’s even rumoured that we have more Green Man carvings than any other church in Suffolk….and we have what we believe to be a Green Woman too.
October 31st is marked all around the world in different ways; from All Hallows Eve in the Christian Tradition, to the Gaelic Samhain, and known in modern times as Halloween. To recognise this, we’re excited to welcome Hells Belles and Belchamp Morris, as in the Samhain tradition, they dance out the harvest season and help us put our Green Folk to sleep for the winter—until they return full of new life in the springtime.
🖌️ Get Creative!
Make your very own Green Folk mask in our all-ages Mask Making Workshop, starting at 5:30pm. All materials are supplied and there will be prizes for the best masks!
💃 Join the Dance!
At 6:30pm, the Morris sides will dance into the building, filling the evening with music, movement, and tradition. You’ll even get the chance to join in and try Morris dancing for yourself!
🎃 All ages are welcome!
This is a family-friendly event—perfect for little spooks, witches and woodland folk of all kinds. Come dressed in your favourite costumes and there may even be prizes!
