A Night at the Opera with Catherine May as soprano soloist

This concert will have a seriously operatic theme so if you want to put on a seriously operatic costume please do so – but from casual to smart just come as you are and enjoy the evening.  Our soloist for the evening is Catherine May who will be performing Micaela’s Aria from Bizet’s Carmen, and just maybe a few other opera numbers for us all.  We start with the overture to Verdi’s La Forza del Destino which is nothing if not Verdi in full scale operatic mode.  Maybe not subtle but certainly effective and stimulating.  We follow this with the much gentler Intermezzo from Mascagni’s much loved Cavelleria Rusticana – pure romance on a G string.  After the interval we will perform the two Carmen Suites by Bizet.  These suites are the orchestra only version of the full Carmen opera music as compiled by Ernest Guiraud but we will have a twist as during the evening we will also have the “real” Micaela’s Aria from the Carmen opera sung by Catherine May.  Altogether, though we say it ourselves, a terrific operatic programme.

Tickets for this concert are also available in person from the Tourist Information Office in Sudbury Town Hall, and Peddars in King Street, Sudbury

Tickets are just £18 for adults (including complimentary concert programme) and £2 for children aged 16 and under.  Tickets will also be available on the door.  Or click here to email SUDBURY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and reserve your ticket.
