Classical music at its best
Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Schubert
Conductor: Matthew Andrews
Michael Foyle, the fantastic violinst who played with SSO in March 2024, is returning to play this time Mendelssohn’s Violin concerto in E minor – a really great piece for the violin and deservedly popular among both audiences and players. Beethoven’s Leonora No. 3 overture, starts the evening – this was his third version of an overture to his Fidelio opera and its one that has stood the test of time and is now played as a concert piece in its own right. The evening finishes with Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, his 8th published symphony although sometimes called his 7th depending on which order the publisher issued them. Whichever it is, its a delightful work full of beautiful melodies and you just so wish he had actually got round to finishing it. But it was not to be so on the 28th June it will just be the two finished movements of the work that we will be performing.
